Increasing Minimum Daily Wage in Seven Provinces

On 17 October 2011, the Wage Council announced an increase in minimum daily wage to Baht 300 in seven provinces: Bangkok, Pathumthani, Nontaburi, Samutsakorn, Nakornpathom, Samutprakarn, and Phuket.

However, due to the flooding, the effective date for the enforcement of the increased minimum wage has been postponed from 1 January 2012 to 1 April 2012. This is to allow employers affected by the flooding to recover their business operations.

The Wage Council also confirmed that the Baht 300 minimum wage in the seven provinces will be fixed until 2015. Further, an increase to Baht 300 per day for all provinces in Thailand will be considered again by the Wage Council in 2013.
