Capital for a representative or regional office

A representative office or regional office are the types of legal entities which most foreign businesses choose to set up in order to conduct business in Thailand. After applying for a corporate registration number, the representative office or regional office must bring a minimum amount of capital into Thailand from the date it commences doing business in Thailand.

Under the Foreign Business Act, the minimum capital required for conducting an unrestricted business is THB 2 million, while THB 3 million is required for conducting a restricted business. The business of both a representative office and regional office is unrestricted according to the regulations of the Ministry of Commerce.

However, under the regulations of the Labour Department, the minimum capital required to apply for a work permit for a foreign employee is THB 3 million.
